On October 26, the European Society for Hybrid, Molecular & Translation Imaging (ESHIMT) delivered a brand new, completely virtual conference to the world. The Conference on Hybrid Imaging Live (CHILI) was the first meeting of its kind in this field and can be considered a resounding success, with 2,400 live viewers from 107 countries tuning in to watch.
The conference, which was filmed and broadcasted live from a state-of-the-art studio in Barcelona, had generated a lot of attention from the radiology, nuclear medicine and physics community beforehand as it saw figures in registration rising up to 3,500. During the conference an average of 750 people (in total 2,400) were watching in parallel, which the organisers consider to be a big success for a field as specialised as hybrid imaging. In addition 1,000 people registered to watch the recording, which was available for 72 hours after the virtual congress.
Interactivity was granted by the built in Slido tool, which allowed participants to ask questions in real time and was used four hundred times during the virtual meeting. In particular, everyone was pleasantly surprised when a marriage proposal was even submitted during one of the panel discussions. ESHIMT offers its sincere congratulations.
The virtual congress included lectures, round table discussions and videos on hybrid imaging, brought to participants by some of the world’s leading experts in hybrid imaging. These experts included a range of nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists and physicists. Worth 5 CME credits, the CHILI was accessible via any device and was completely free.
Thomas Beyer, President of ESHIMT, was excited by the level of interest the congress generated, stating, “Hybrid imaging has come a long way in recent years and the success of CHILI, as attested by the elite faculty and the high number of registrations, has emphasised this even more. I would like to thank everyone who ‘attended’ the conference as well as everyone who worked so hard in ‘virtual space’ to provide such a fascinating and well-organised programme. I have high expectations for hybrid imaging in the years to come and for more CHILI events!”
With its success and the increasingly important role hybrid imaging plays in the field of radiology and nuclear medicine, the conference will return in the future.
